Anthony Fokker : The Flying Dutchman Who Shaped American Aviation

Fokker stumbled into aviation as a young stunt pilot in Germany in 1910. A combination of industrial espionage, luck and deception then propelled him to become Germany's leading aircraft manufacturer during World War I, making him a multimillionaire by his mid-20s.
When the German Revolution swept the country in 1918 and 1919, Fokker went to the United States. He set up business in New York and New Jersey in 1921, and shortly thereafter became the world's largest aircraft manufacturer. The U.S. Army and Navy acquired his machines, and his factories equipped carriers such as Pan American and TWA at the dawn of commercial air transport.

Yet despite his success, his empire collapsed in the late 1920s after a series of ill-conceived business decisions and personal dramas.
In 1927, aviator Richard Byrd solicited a Fokker three-engine plane to be the first to fly non-stop across the Atlantic. The plane was damaged on a test flight and Charles Lindbergh beat him to it. Lindbergh's solo adventure in the Spirit of St. Louis earned him - and cost Fokker - a lasting place in the history books.
Dierikx traces Fokker's life and achievements using previously undiscovered records and primary sources.

Fokker D21 - Fokkers laatste eenmotorige jager

The Fokker D.21 was not among the great fighter aircraft of World War II, but for three small neutral countries, it was the most numerous when they were attacked by Germany and the Soviet Union in 1939 and 1940.
This makes the D.21 the most historically and numerically significant Dutch aircraft of that period - more so than the well-known Fokker G.1, which was only used in the Netherlands and performed no better in May 1940 than the less resource-intensive D.21.
In Finnish service, the D.21 played a small yet notable role in history, continuing to fight in the forests of East Karelia until 1944.
Despite its importance, few books have been dedicated to the D.21. While smaller publications have covered its Dutch and Finnish service, a comprehensive account - from its first designs in 1935 to its last flights in 1947 - had been lacking until now.

Fokker G-1 Jachtkruiser (deel 1) - Ontwikkeling

The Fokker G-1 Jachtkruiser was a combat aircraft designed in 1936 by engineer Marius Beeling and Dr. Erich Schatzki. It combined the roles of long-range fighter, reconnaissance aircraft, and light bomber. This concept was also being developed internationally and led to various aircraft designs. The distinctive twin-boom tail made the G-1 easily recognizable.
The Dutch Military Aviation ordered 36 Fokker G-1s with Bristol Mercury engines, delivered just before the war. In November 1939, an additional order followed for 26 aircraft with Pratt & Whitney Wasp engines. Ten of these were produced, some even delivered during the May days of 1940.
This book is the first in a three-part series on the Fokker G-1. Together, these books form a comprehensive reference work on this aircraft in Dutch aviation history. It covers the design, technology, and development of the fighter.

Fokker G-1 Jachtkruiser (deel 3) - Techniek van Kop tot Staart

After covering the construction and deployment of the Fokker G-1 in volumes 1 and 2, this third part focuses on the detailed structure of this remarkable aircraft.
Few original design drawings of the Fokker G-1 have survived. This led to extensive research into how the aircraft was built. This book is the result of over forty years of study on the construction of the Fokker G-1 Mercury.
It includes hundreds of hand-drawn technical illustrations by Jan Broos, supported by text and photographs. Since the 1980s, Broos dedicated himself to this subject, building a 1: 10 scale model of the G-1 in 1985. The discovery of construction photos in Denmark in 1993 accelerated his work. From 1997, he collaborated with the Fokker G-1 Foundation, creating around four hundred 3D drawings and exploded views.
Jan Broos passed away in 2019. This book is based on his manuscript and illustrations, offering a unique insight into the construction of the Fokker G-1, one of Fokker's finest fighters.

Fokker T.8-W

The Fokker T.8-W was a twin-engine torpedo bomber and reconnaissance floatplane designed for the Dutch Naval Aviation Service (MLD) at their request. It was intended for both coastal defense in the Netherlands and service in the Dutch East Indies.
Designed in 1937, the T.8-W marked Fokker's shift to a new construction method. Unlike previous Fokker aircraft, which featured a metal frame with an aluminum front and linen-covered rear, the T.8-W had a fully aluminum front fuselage, while the central fuselage and wings were made of wood, and the rear was still linen-covered. This design marked the transition to all-metal Fokkers. A total of 36 units were built and served with the MLD.

This book details the development, technology, and operational history of these Fokker seaplanes.

Fokker schoolvliegtuigen en de militaire vliegopleiding 1913-1940

When Anthony Fokker came to the Netherlands from Germany in 1919, he brought his robust and reliable aircraft with him. The engines had gained high power outputs and performance had improved significantly. The aircraft had become weapons in their own right. The planes were designed for a specific task and could be deployed as fighters, reconnaissance aircraft, or bombers.
Towards the end of the war, it became dangerous for inexperienced student pilots to take to the air given the high power outputs and enormous maneuverability of modern aircraft. Consequently, a demand arose for aircraft specifically designed as training planes. At the end of the war, Fokker designed the V.43: Fokker's first school aircraft.

At Fokker, you could buy any type of aircraft. In addition to the D-series fighters, a new C-series reconnaissance aircraft, B-series flying boats, and T-series torpedo and bomber aircraft were established. In the civilian sector, Fokker started with the F-series passenger aircraft.
To bind potential customers to you, it was necessary to familiarize pilots with your products right from the start. For instance, the S-series training aircraft were established immediately after the war. Student pilots could thus take their first lessons on the S-planes and then switch to the CI and the D.VII.

The LVA and the MLD were the major users of the Fokker S-class aircraft. The training aircraft did not catch on abroad. At the MLD and the LVA, an entire generation of pilots received training on the Fokker S.III and S.IV. The aircraft were used intensively. They made many emergency landings and were involved in aviation accidents, and were usually completely rebuilt.
As a replacement, the Fokker S.9 was purchased for both training programs after fifteen years (!). The last three S.9s were built after the war. They became Fokker's last biplanes that were still built using the old mixed construction method.

Fokker S14 Machtrainer

The Fokker S-14 Machtrainer was the first Dutch jet aircraft and the first purpose-designed jet trainer in the world. Earlier trainers were simply two-seat versions of existing fighters. Fokker expected major international interest, but this did not materialise. Delays within NATO, the choice of the Royal Netherlands Air Force for the T-33, and limited confidence within Fokker deprived the S-14 of real prospects. The order for 20 aircraft was largely symbolic.

This book presents a complete history of the S-14, supported by many previously unpublished facts and illustrations.
