PC-7 Team

This book offers a clear insight into the PC-7 Team, whose flight displays are often described as an "aerial ballet". The formation pilots impress with rapid, accurate manoeuvres, flying their aircraft only a few metres apart.

The nine professional military pilots of the Swiss Air Force fly the F/A-18 Hornet in daily service. With their red-and-white Pilatus NCPC-7 training aircraft, they represent the Air Force at home and abroad. Such precision is only possible through complete mutual trust, making teamwork essential.

Photographer Urs Mattle accompanied the PC-7 Team throughout the 2012 season on the ground and in the air, becoming an integrated member of the team. Additional images by renowned aviation photographer Katsuhiko Tokunaga complement the documentation.

"PC-7 Team - Backstage" provides a rare look behind the scenes of this highly professional aerobatic unit - from briefing to the friendly gathering after a successful display.

Pilatus SB-2 Pelican: Das Schweizer Bergflugzeug

This book presents the development of the Swiss mountain aircraft SB-2 Pelican, which originated from ETH Zurich studies beginning in 1938. Construction started in 1941 at Pilatus Aircraft in Stans. The Pelican was designed as a slow-flying aircraft for narrow Alpine valleys, requiring short take-off and landing distances and excellent climb performance.

The only SB-2 built, registered HB-AEP, made its first flight on 30 May 1944. After extensive testing it was delivered to Alpar AG in Bern, where it was used mainly for sightseeing and taxi flights. Additional trials followed.

A fatal setback occurred on 13 June 1948 during an airshow in Kirchberg: the nosewheel fork broke while rolling over a field path at high speed, causing the aircraft to overturn. Due to severe damage it was later withdrawn from use.

The book presents all designs, development stages, construction and testing of the SB-2 Pelican and its predecessor SB-1 in full detail, and highlights the demanding conditions faced by the engineers.
