Produced in ten countries, sold in 179 countries in more than 26 million units since its birth in 1972, the Honda Civic is a magical car. Magical because it allowed Honda, a tiny car manufacturer at the dawn of the 1970s, to become a giant producing more than 5.3 million vehicles per year.
Throughout its forty-eight years of existence, the Civic has known ten generations that have adapted to the tastes, fashions, and specificities of each country where it is built or imported. You will discover in this book all the generations imported into France with their derivatives, including the adorable CRX coupes.
Magical also because, through their endearing personality, their technology, Civics are not cars like the others, bought by buyers different from the others, a specificity that Honda already communicated in its motorcycle advertising in the early 1960s: "It is in Honda that we meet the nicest people".
A brand apart in the global automotive landscape. A brand capable of being at the forefront in fields as diverse as motorcycles (originally), cars, but also robotics, aviation and marine engines! The common point of all these activities is technology: when Soïchiro Honda founded his eponymous firm in 1947, this is what interested him.
Technology. A rabid iconoclast, he never stopped inventing, optimizing, making his engines more reliable and improving their performance. Another passion of the founder was competition: after having won everything on the circuit in motorcycles in the 1960s (contributing to the international emergence of the Japanese industry), he tackled F1. Today, Honda's racing record is close to that of a Ford or a Ferrari! Honda cars therefore necessarily have legendary models in their range, which have left their mark on generations of enthusiasts passionate about sports or sophisticated mechanics.
This book offers to rediscover them, from the small S800 to the first NSX supercar, with an educational, historical text. The large place given to iconography allows to highlight unpublished photographs of rare models.
When the Honda S800 Coupe was introduced in Germany in 1966, many car journalists were surprised. The engine of the small sports car produced 67 hp from just 791 cc displacement. Converted to liter power, these were the values of a racing car. The initial skeptics were soon proven wrong. The engine with the four carburettors was very reliable. The S800 was also sold in a pretty convertible version. Today, Honda S800 vehicles are sought-after rarities.
Now it is time to give this fantastic and groundbreaking vehicle a monument, an honest tribute. This publication is dedicated to this sports car. The author writes about the Honda S800 with wit and expertise. History, stories, technical data and a large number of previously unpublished images round off this successful work.
