Austin Healey 100-6 & 3000 (Rally Giants)
The Austin Healey 100-6 and 3000, produced from 1957 to 1965, evolved into highly specialized rally cars. Known as the first 'homologation specials, ' these six-cylinder models became progressively stronger, faster, and more versatile, making them suitable for the toughest international rallies.
Although the Healey Motor Co. laid the foundation, it was the BMC Competitions Department at Abingdon that transformed the cars into powerful 210bhp rally machines. Thanks to their expertise, the "Big Healeys" gained a reputation for being fast, tough, and agile, capable of winning major events wherever conditions allowed.
The works Austin Healeys won prestigious races such as Liege-Sofia-Liege, Spa-Sofia-Liege, and the French and Austrian Alpine rallies. They were also incredibly fast in events like the Tulip rally and nearly won the British RAC Rally multiple times.
This book, part of the 'Rally Giants' series by motoring historian Graham Robson, tells the complete story of these rally legends. It covers every success, every notable car, and how the vehicles developed and improved over the years.
