Factory-Original Austin-Healey 100/6 & 3000 : The originality guide to six-cylinder Austin-Healeys, 1956-1968

The Austin-Healey 100, designed by Donald Healey and his team, was a major success. In 1956, it was succeeded by the six-cylinder 2.6-litre 100/6, initially a 2+2 seater, with a two-seat version introduced in 1958. In 1959, the more powerful 3000 model replaced both, available as a two-seater or 2+2, now with disc brakes.

The Mk II 3000, launched in 1961, offered a rare 132bhp two-seater with triple carburettors and side screens or a more refined 2+2 convertible with wind-up windows. The final version, the Mk III of 1964, was 2+2 only, featuring 150bhp, a wood-veneered dashboard, and improved fittings.

Admired today as when new, these "Big Healeys" combine classic styling with strong performance and open-air driving appeal. Marque expert Bill Piggott details the correct specifications and features of all models, illustrated by over 350 high-quality photographs.
The book covers body panels, trim, badging, paint colours, interiors, dashboards, instruments, engines, transmissions, lighting, and even tool kits, offering essential reference material for owners and enthusiasts.

The Big Healeys

The big Austin-Healeys, with their sleek and powerful appearance, have always made a strong impression. This book explores the development of the "Big" Healeys, distinct from the smaller Austin-Healey Sprite, providing a comprehensive account of these iconic British sports cars.

After Donald Healey's sports car design impressed Austin's managing director, Leonard Lord, at the 1952 London Motor Show, Healey received the necessary engineering support to produce the car in large quantities. Collaborating with Jensen Motors for the bodywork, Austin supplied the mechanical components from their Longbridge factory. The new car was named the Austin-Healey 100 due to its ability to reach 100 mph.

The book also covers the development of the Austin-Healey 100-Six and the Austin-Healey 3000, detailing their technical advancements and achievements in competitions and record-breaking events.

Works Healeys In Detail - Healey, Nash-Healey and Austin-Healey works competition entrants, car by car

Donald Healey began rallying in the 1920s and soon gained fame in European events. A successful businessman, he aspired to build high-performance cars and, in 1946, launched his first models - the Westland roadster and the Elliott saloon - from his small Warwick factory.
The Elliott was the fastest saloon of its time, exceeding 110 mph and entering rallying by 1947. Healey later introduced the Silverstone, the elegant Tickford saloon, the Nash-Healey, and the renowned 100. The 100 quickly became the first Austin-Healey, leading to the 100/6, the 3000, and the addition of the Sprite.
