The Messerschmitt Bf 109 E - Germany's Premier Early World War II Fighter (Legends of Warfare)
The Bf 109 E "Emil" entered service in 1938, powered by the powerful DB 601 engine, which made it one of the most capable fighters of its time. After seeing action in the Spanish Civil War, the Emil became Germany's primary fighter during the early years of World War II, serving in Poland, France, the Low Countries, Britain, the Balkans, and North Africa.
By June 1941, during "Operation Barbarossa, " the Emil was largely replaced by the Bf 109 F as the Luftwaffe's main fighter. However, it continued to serve in various roles, including fighter-bomber, reconnaissance, and fighter training. The Bf 109 E was flown by many of Germany's top fighter aces during the early war years.
