Boeing 737 - 100 and 200

The Boeing 737 was developed as a smaller alternative to the 707 and 727, designed for shorter routes with fewer passengers. It first flew in 1967 and entered commercial service with Lufthansa as the 737-100. A major order from United Airlines led to the slightly larger 737-200, which became the standard model. Although early sales were slow, the 737-100 and -200 proved highly successful, laying the foundation for the ongoing 737 family, including the modern 737 MAX.
By the time production of the 737-200 ended in 1988, over 1.000 had been built, including military and cargo versions. While most have been retired, some still operate in remote areas of Canada and developing countries.
