L'épopée Latécoère et la base aéronavale de Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque 1924-2015

Louis Bassères, from Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque, began his research in 1985 after discovering in his attic a postcard album belonging to his grandfather, General François Bassères. From that moment, he focused on collecting photographs of the former Latécoère seaplane base.

He first contacted local villagers and published notices in "L'Indépendant des P.-O." and "La Dépêche de Toulouse". Later, he collaborated with the Biscarrosse Seaplane Museum and the Latécoère Foundation, led by Marie-Vincente Latécoère.

After reviewing the archives of "L'Indépendant des P.-O." and gathering numerous documents, Bassères asked his friend Jean-Pierre Bobo to write the book. Bobo had prior experience, having published the history of the Perpignan-Llabanère airfield about fifteen years earlier.

The resulting book combines these extensive researches and presents photographs, documents, and historical information on the Latécoère base, offering a detailed view of its role in French aviation.

While searching for new photographs for his exhibition "St. Laurent d'antan*, Louis Bassères made a surprising discovery: the Laté 28-5 and its pilot, Lieutenant de Vaisseau Paris.

This find became the starting point for his research. In July 1995, following an article by Joseph de Joux in "Le Fana de l'Aviation", Bassères began a correspondence with the journalist, who was also a skilled aircraft illustrator.

This book presents the results of his research on Latécoère aviation and the history of L'Aéropostale. It compiles photographs, documents, and historical information, providing a detailed view of this significant period in French aviation.
