Zagato : Masterpieces of Style

In 1919, Ugo Zagato founded Carrozzeria U. Zagato & C., quickly gaining fame among car manufacturers, most notably Alfa Romeo. The Milanese coachbuilder designed and built iconic cars such as the 6C 1750 and the 8C 2900 in the 1930s.

Over the years, Zagato became synonymous with style, producing celebrated models including the Lancia Aprilia Sport, post-war Panoramic series, Aston Martin DB4, Alfa Romeo SZ and TZ, and the Lancias Fulvia, Flavia, and Flaminia. From the 1990s onward, Zagato re-established itself as a design atelier, creating limited-production cars and unique models for wealthy clients.

This book by automotive historian Luciano Greggio recounts the full history of Zagato, from its early successes to its modern-day creations. It is richly illustrated and provides a detailed account of one of the most prestigious names in car design.

Zagato, chef-d'oeuvre du design

In 1919, Ugo Zagato opened his first bodywork studio in Milan for cars and airplanes. In the 1920s, he specialized in luxury and racing vehicles, becoming a key partner for Alfa Romeo and Scuderia Ferrari.

After World War II, Zagato played a major role in developing the Gran Turismo. Under his sons Elio and Gianni, the Milanese firm expanded partly industrially. The Alfa Romeo SZ and TZ remain among the brand's most iconic sports models.

The company continued innovating, producing limited editions highly prized by collectors. In the 1990s, Andrea Zagato and his wife Marella Rivolta took over, guiding the workshop's evolution.

Today, the Zagato Total Design Studio designs both supercars and futuristic transport while maintaining the company's creative and artisanal expertise.

This book covers the full history of Zagato, its iconic creations, and lasting influence in the automotive world.
