The innovative Unimog proved successful in many fields, but not in agriculture. For this reason, Daimler developed the MB-trac in the early 1970s, based on the Unimog. This tractor differed clearly from its competitors and was intended to secure Daimler a lasting position in the agricultural market.

In the 1990s, Unimog and MB-trac followed separate technical paths, while agriculture faced a crisis. As a result, Daimler ended production of the previously successful system tractor.
