F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler - The US Navy's Primary Fighter/Attack Aircraft (Legends of Warfare)
The Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is an upgraded version of the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A/B Hornet. First flown in 1980, the original Hornet was developed as a multirole fighter to support the larger, more expensive Grumman F-14 Tomcat in fleet defense and air superiority roles. While effective, it had limited combat range due to fuel capacity.
The larger F/A-18 Super Hornet addressed this issue and is now the primary fighter and attack aircraft of the U.S. Navy's carrier fleet, replacing both the legacy Hornet and the F-14 Tomcat. Its airframe also served as the basis for the EA-18G Growler, which replaced the EA-6B Prowler in electronic warfare operations.
This book describes the history, construction and deployment of both aircraft types.
