Best known for its role in "Top Gun", the Grumman F-14 Tomcat was a two-seat, variable-geometry carrier-based fighter. It served as the US Navy's primary maritime air superiority fighter and fleet defence interceptor from 1974 to 2006.

Tony Holmes examines the design, construction, and operational use of the Tomcat, including its combat history in Operation Desert Storm (1991), Operation Deliberate Force (Bosnia, 1995), and Operation Allied Force (Bosnia and Kosovo, 1999).

The F-14 Tomcat

The F-14 Tomcat Story

Designed as the ultimate long range fleet defence fighter interceptor for the US Navy, the Grumman Tomcat entered frontline service in 1973 as a replacement for the legendary F-4 Phantom II. Tomcat Alley - A Photographic Roll Call of the Grumman F-14 Tomcat
