LOT Polish Airlines - Wings of Central Europe
NEW
Polish aviation dates back to 1910, but one of the first fully domestic airlines, Aerolloyd, was established in 1922 by Polish oil barons with support from German investors. Operating from the Free City of Danzig, Aerolloyd merged with smaller Polish airlines in 1927 to form LOT Polish Airlines, which became state-owned.
During World War II, LOT suspended operations under German occupation. After the war, under Soviet influence, the airline primarily used Russian aircraft, though some Western models were introduced. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, LOT expanded its fleet with more Western aircraft and grew its route network.
Despite challenges such as the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX 8, failed privatization attempts, and the COVID-19 pandemic, LOT has remained a leading airline in Eastern Europe.
This book, featuring over 150 photographs, traces the airline's history from its origins to the present.
