Lola - The T70 and Can-Am Cars

During the golden age of sports car racing in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Lola T70 and its successors stood out for their power and beauty. These high-performance machines competed in North America's Can-Am series as open spyders and in the World Sports Car Championship as closed coupés.
Equipped with powerful American V8 engines, they were incredibly fast and widely admired by both drivers and fans.

This comprehensive book, the result of 30 years of research by Lola expert Gordon Jones, documents the complete racing history of the T70 and its Can-Am successors, from the T160 to the T310. Lola T70 Manual (1965 onwards) - An insight into the the design, engineering, maintenance and operation

The Lola T70, developed by Lola Cars in 1965, was designed for sports car racing. The chassis, typically powered by large American V8 engines (mainly Chevrolet and Ford), was highly successful during the mid- to late-1960s. Over 100 T70s were built in three versions: the open-topped Mk I and Mk II Spyder, followed by the Mk III Coupé, and an updated Mk IIIB.

The T70 Coupé was the first Lola to be designed in a wind tunnel. Chief designer Eric Broadley worked with Tony Southgate, creating a car that was both agile and stylish. The final version, the Mk IIIB, is considered one of the most beautiful racing cars of its time.

The T70 performed well in both UK and European championships, winning frequently. In 1970, T70s were featured in the Steve McQueen film "Le Mans", some disguised as Porsche 917s and Ferrari 512s.

Today, Lola T70s remain popular in historic racing and are highly sought after by collectors. This book provides a detailed account of the design, engineering, maintenance, and operation of this legendary sports racing car.

Lola T70 - The Racing History & Individual Chassis Record

The Lola T70 was the car Eric Broadley intended to build for Ford instead of the GT40. He felt the GT40's design was too conservative for a modern sports racing car and decided to create the T70 under his own company, Lola.

The T70 quickly achieved success, helping John Surtees win the 1966 Can-Am Championship. It also performed well in Group 7 races until the series ended in 1966, with drivers like Denny Hulme, David Hobbs, and Brian Redman achieving victories in T70s.
Although the T70 wasn't a dominant endurance racer, it had notable success in shorter events like the TT and Martini races. Today, it remains a strong contender in historic racing.

John Starkey, T70 owner and former Curator of the Donington Racing Car Collection, has gathered extensive information about the T70 and interviewed past and present owners and drivers. This book includes the history and specifications of each T70 chassis where available.
