Fahr Traktoren 1938-1968 (Typenkompass)
Fahr became known for its grass mowers and reaper-binders. In the 1950s, the small tractor manufacturer benefited from the booming market in West Germany and successfully launched tractors for small and medium-sized businesses. When the economic situation became more difficult, Fahr merged with its competitor Deutz to form Deutz-Fahr in the late 1960s. Today, the tractor manufacturer belongs to the Italian SAME Group.
In this Typenkompass, Ulf Kaack portrays all the important tractor models that Fahr produced and brought onto the market from 1938 to 1968.
The wood gas tractor is still very well known to many fans of historical agricultural machinery. But who knows the lightweight construction that was developed due to a shortage of materials or the people's tractor that was to show large parts of agriculture the way to mechanization?
Using FAHR as an example, the author impressively shows how companies were massively influenced and restricted in the development and production of their products by state intervention in a planned economy and ultimately by the war. This study is supplemented by the beginnings of tractor production at FAHR from 1938 and with a wealth of previously unpublished illustrations.
