MiG-29 Flight Manual

The MiG-29 Fulcrum is acknowledged as the finest lightweight, multi-role fighter ever produced in Russia. It was designed to operate under wartime conditions and fight head-to-head with Western combat aircraft such as the U.S. F-16 Falcon, F/A-18 Hornet, French Mirage 2000, Rafale, and Swedish JAS-39 Grippen.
Roughly the size of the F/A-18 Hornet, the Mach 2.3 capable Fulcrum has also demonstrated many extraordinary capabilities and set several world records, including topping the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird in altitude.

Presently in service with the Russian Air Force, as well as the air forces of Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, India, Germany, Yugoslavia, Serbia, Iraq, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Syria, Poland, Malaysia, Hungary, and Yemen, the MiG-29 has proved to be a rugged and capable fighter that will continue to be a factor in future conflicts, both as ally or foe.
It is with this in mind that MiG-29 Flight Manual: Unclassified was created - to provide a rare and unprecedented glimpse inside a top Russian aircraft. Using information that only a few years ago was highly classified, this translated text presents an extraordinary look at the capabilities and complexities of one of the very best fighters of the current age.

Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 (Osprey)

The MiG-21 (NATO reporting name Fishbed) firmly holds the title of the world's most widely built and used jet fighter, with more than 10,000 units rolling off the lines of three plants in the former Soviet Union. The type was also built under license in India and Czechslovakia, and without license in China until the late 2000s.
Designed as a Mach-2 light tactical fighter, its original prototype, the Ye-6/1, was first flown in 1958. The first production variant of the type, designated the MiG-21F, appeared in 1960 and its improved sub-variant, the MiG-21F-13 (Type 74, NATO reporting name Fishbed-C), was made available for export by 1961. It was a simplified daytime short-range, clear-weather interceptor and tactical fighter.

The MiG-21 - The Legendary Fighter/Interceptor in Russian and Worldwide Use, 1956 to the Present

This book presents a detailed look at the design and development of the legendary MiG-21, including its powerplant, armament, upgrades, and variants. The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 was the standard fighter/interceptor aircraft of the Warsaw Pact and it stood up to its western counterparts for decades.

This single-engine, supersonic jet fighter entered service in 1959, and in addition to the Soviet Union, almost every eastern European military operated the Mach 2 fighter, including East Germany (which flew more than 500 aircraft of this type), Poland, Romania, Yugoslavia, and others.
With approximately 11,000 of all types built, the MiG-21 has been produced in greater numbers than almost any other combat aircraft in history, and has also seen combat with such countries as Vietnam, China, Syria, Iraq, Angola, and others.

F-8 Crusader vs MiG-17 - Vietnam 1965-72 (Osprey)

Revered by Naval Aviators as the 'last of the gunfighters' due to its quartet of Colt-Browning Mk 12 20 mm cannon, the F-8 Crusader enjoyed great success against VPAF MiG-17s during the Rolling Thunder campaign of 1966-68. But, the MiG-17's unequalled low-speed manoeuvrability, small size and powerful cannon armament meant that the American forces didn't have it all their own way.
This fully illustrated book, featuring photographs, maps and battlescene artwork, reveals the tactics that were developed by pilots on both sides to give themselves the edge in air-to-air dogfights, allowing the reader to understand how the differing design and development doctrines played a part in combat.

Mikoyan MiG-31 Interceptor (Flight Craft)

The MiG-31 started life as an advanced derivative of the famous MiG-25P interceptor, becoming the first Soviet fourth-generation combat aircraft. First flown in 1975, it differed from its progenitor primarily in having a crew of two (pilot and weapons systems operator), a highly capable passive phased-array radar - a world first - and new R-33 long-range missiles as its primary armament.
The maximum speed was an impressive Mach 2.82, the cruising speed being Mach 2.35.

The type entered service in 1981; more than 500 copies were built between 1981 and 1994. The powerful radar and other avionics allowed the MiG-31 to operate as a 'mini-AWACS' scanning the airspace and guiding other interceptors to their targets; a flight of three such aircraft in line abreast formation could cover a strip 800 km (500 miles) wide. To this day the MiG-31 remains one of the key air defence assets of the Russian Air Force.

The book describes the MiG-31's developmental history, including upgrade programmes, and features a full and comprehensive survey of the various MiG-31 model-making kits currently available on the market.

Silver Birds over the Estuary - The MiG-21 in Yugoslav and Serbian Air Force service 1962-2019

The MiG-21 has been built in greater numbers than any other combat aircraft since 1945. It also saw service with more air forces than any other type manufactured over the last 70 years. Locally designated the 'L' (for Lovac or fighter), for more than half a century over 260 MiG-21s in 12 different versions and sub-variants formed the backbone of the Yugoslav Air Force and Air Defence Force (JRV i PVO) and later the Serbian Air Force (RV i PVO).
Entering service at the peak of the Cold War, the MiG-21 quickly replaced the US-supplied North American F-86E and F-86D Sabres in the Yugoslav inventory. The first version, MiG-21F-13, was followed by the MiG-21PFM in 1967, and MiG-21M/MF in 1970. Serving with the 204th Fighter Regiment, the task of these fighters was the air defence of Belgrade, capital of Yugoslavia.

Whenever a new and more advanced variant became available, older types were handed over to other units. This is how the 117th Fighter Regiment came into being, based at the famous underground air base outside the town of Bihac. The Pristina-based 83rd Fighter Regiment followed in 1972.
In Tito's Yugoslavia, the MiG-21 was also deployed for strategic reconnaissance. In 1968-1969, the JRV i PVO introduced the MiG-21R to service, which became the primary photo- and electronic reconnaissance platform of the entire military. The importance of the fleet was further increased in 1984, when US-made Fairchild KA-112 LORAP containers were added to their arsenal.

The final and most widely used version became the MiG-21bis, delivered to Yugoslavia in the 1977-1983 period. By the time of the dissolution of the country, in 1991-1992, it formed the backbone of the fleet and saw intensive combat service as a fighter-bomber during the conflicts in Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Of particular interest during this period was the widespread use of diverse ordnance of native and NATO-origins.

The book is based upon the author's extensive research in Serbian and Croatian archives, museums and interviews with veterans that flew this type. Most of the photos in this volume have never been published before.

The MiG-29 - Russia's Legendary Air Superiority, and Multirole Fighter, 1977 to the Present

This book presents the development and operational use of the Soviet/Russian Mikoyan MiG-29. The MiG-29 was the Soviet response to the new generation of air-superiority fighter aircraft fielded by NATO, such as the American F-15 and F-16. The aircraft entered service with the Soviet Air Force in 1982, and was soon flown by many Eastern Bloc air forces.

MiG 15 - Der Jäger, der den Westen schockte

At the end of the 1940s, the Soviet Union needed a modern fighter aircraft to counter the threat posed by American bombers carrying atomic bombs.
The problems were enormous, as Soviet designers had paid little attention to jet engines as propulsion or to high-speed aerodynamics. By using German and later English technology and the findings of German scientists, the OKB Mikoyan quickly constructed the MiG-15 and the MiG-15bis modification.

Its use in the Warsaw Pact countries to protect the airspace against airspace violators, but above all in the Korean War against American aircraft, was a shock for the West. No one had believed that the Soviet Union had an aircraft that was in some cases superior to the American ones.
Built in large numbers and flown in 40 countries over many years, the MiG-15 was also a test vehicle for many new technical developments. The two-seater MiG-15UTI served as preparation for modern fighter aircraft up to the MiG-21.

The book describes the development, but above all the worldwide combat use of this fighter aircraft. The author benefits from having flown the MiG-15 himself.

MiG-23
