DAF Lorries

DAF produced its first prototype lorries in 1948, building on the reputation for quality established with their trailers.

In the early 1960s, a few DAF lorries were exported to the UK. Within a few years, the introduction of sleeper cabs and the company's own 2600 cab helped DAF become a major player in the truck industry.

Continuous innovation in cabs and engines eventually made DAF the best-selling heavyweight truck brand in the UK. With a wide range of models, DAF has remained popular among truck enthusiasts.

This book traces the history of DAF trucks, featuring an extensive collection of photographs and detailed captions that highlight the company's development, design, and enduring appeal.

DAF F3300 en F3600 trucks en trekkers - Krachtpaarden

In 1987, the DAF F 95 series, incorporating significant electronic components, was introduced, albeit not universally embraced by all customers. DAF, known for attentive customer listening, responded by launching the F2900 and F3200 series from 1990, featuring the reliable, traditional technology primarily designed for export.

This book provides an overview of all variants within the DAF F 3300 and F 3600 trucks and tractors. Additionally, it delves into the Paris-Dakar rallies and includes a chapter on the DAF YBZ 3300 6x6 recovery vehicles supplied to the military by DAF in the years 1992/1993.

DAF F 95 en 95 XF - New Truck Generation

In August 1987, DAF expanded its heavy-duty truck lineup with a new model: the DAF 95. A robust addition to the DAF fleet, the new 95 marked the beginning of a series initially referred to as the New Truck Generation. DAF took a comprehensive approach, introducing a diverse range of trucks with the new F 249 cabin under the name "Concept 95." In 1988, the 95 series earned DAF the prestigious Truck of the Year title. Over 67,000 chassis of the DAF 95 were produced.

At the Brussels Motor Show in 1997, the 95XF was introduced as the successor to the DAF 95. The "XF" designation stood for eXtra Forte, representing more than just an update to the 95 series. Approximately 80% of the truck underwent a complete redesign. A decade after winning its first Truck of the Year title, DAF received the honor again in 1998 for the 95XF, with almost 79,000 chassis produced.

This book narrates the development of the 95 and 95XF series, which marked a significant success for DAF. It showcases the various configurations within both ranges. As of the book's writing in 2020, the F 249 cabin, in a substantially modified form, continues to be in production.

DAF F2800 trucks en trekkers: Kilometervreters

While the DAF F 2800 was already a success upon its introduction in 1973, the F 2800 series continued to thrive over the years through technical innovations, such as turbo-intercooled diesel engines, and various model enhancements like the Supercontinental, Space Cab, and Topsleeper. These advancements solidified DAF's position in the realm of international heavy transport.

This book, through words and images, captures the evolution of these DAF trucks and tractors, spanning from their debut in 1973 and concluding with the final production in 1986, extending to the trade of second-hand trucks to Africa and Suriname.

DAF torpedofront-trucks - Dertig jaar stoere neuzen 1957-1986: Torpedo, N 2500 en N 2800

In 1957, DAF introduced a new series of trucks with a torpedo front, initially without a cabin and from 1958 onwards, with a factory cabin. The American-style torpedoes with their panoramic windshields were popular, especially among private carriers.

In 1973, after a brief flirtation with International, DAF launched the N2500 torpedo-front series, based on the IH Paystar, which did not gain much traction.

However, the N2800 torpedoes from 1980 proved to be a great success, robust trucks that performed well, particularly in Africa and the Middle East.

After Jan de Rooy won the Paris-Dakar rally in 1982 with 'De Neus' (The Nose), the N2800 became a sought-after heavy truck in the Netherlands. This book narrates the history of thirty years of robust DAF front designs. Approximately 8000 units of the original torpedoes were produced, only 8 of the N 2500, and about 800 of the N 2800 series. In addition to technical data, the book includes approximately 300 illustrations, half of which are in color.

DAF 2600 - Klassieker van de weg

The introduction of the DAF 2600 at the RAI exhibition in 1962 was a sensation, particularly garnering praise for its cabin design. What is now considered commonplace, such as power steering, cabin heating, and windshield wipers, received special attention at that time. The truck found favor with transportation companies and especially with drivers.

Production of the 2600 continued until 1974, with approximately 15,000 trucks and tractors rolling off the assembly line. Currently, around 60 DAF 2600s are preserved or have their registration still present at the RDW (Dutch Vehicle Authority).

This book provides a comprehensive overview of all produced variants and is a revised edition of the original book with an additional 16 pages. It includes many new photos, a significant portion in color, showcasing the 2600s in action and during testing, along with technical information and descriptions. In addition to featuring vintage vehicles, there is also a diverse collection of model cars. A special section includes pages providing descriptions of 2600s at various transport companies.

DAF 65 - 75 - 85 - CF - New Medium Line: stoere werkpaarden met karakter

This book describes the development of the DAF 75 and 85, presented at the IAA in May 1992 and immediately notable in the medium-duty sector. These models featured the in-house developed F 230 cab and were designed for demanding, versatile use.
Deliveries of the two-axle versions of the New Medium Line began in October 1992, followed by the DAF 65 in January 1993. With various series, engines, axles, configurations and cabs, DAF Trucks N.V. established a solid base for further growth.

In 1998 the updated generation appeared at the BedrijfsautoRAI under the name CF (Compact Forte). Together with the 95XF introduced in 1997, these trucks led to a clear increase in market share.

A wide range of photographs presents all variants, including fire and municipal vehicles, and provides a complete view of the many applications of the New Medium Line.

DAF 7- en 6 strepers - vrachtwagens uit de jaren vijftig

This eighteenth book in the DAF series covers the first DAF trucks, the 7- and 6-stripers. The photos depict transport in the 1950s, post-war reconstruction, simple life, hard work, and the streets of that time.
The choice of the 7- and 6-stripers is intentional, as both models featured a grille with chrome strips and a windshield with a central pillar and were produced by DAF in the 1950s.
As much information as possible has been added to the images. Most photos are in black and white, as was common at the time, but the book also includes color scans of brochure covers, pages from catalogs, specification sheets, and drawings.
From the late 1950s, DAF increasingly published color photos, which have a dedicated section in this book. The book concludes with an overview of the DAF models available in the 1950s.

DAF chassis voor speciale bedrijfswagens - Maatconfectie in bedrijfsautofabricage

This book, part of the DAF monograph series (volume 15), does not focus specifically on one type of DAF truck or series. Instead, it showcases the creativity and transportation solutions that DAF has offered over the years, often playing a pioneering role in the industry.

The subtitle, "Custom Tailoring in Commercial Vehicle Manufacturing," is derived from the brochures of DAF 1502, 1600, and 3200 trucks from 1964. This slogan was inspired by the numerous possibilities in DAF chassis (custom tailoring) featuring the 120 hp DD engine.

The book is organized into five chapters, covering chassis with a central beam, lowered chassis, special multi-axle configurations with double front axles and steerable leading or trailing axles, and tanker trucks in their various forms.
The informative text provides an overview of over 90 years of DAF vehicle development, ranging from the swing axle trailer to the 2000 DO and from the 2800 to the current CF Pure Excellence.

DAF YA 4440 /4442 Viertonner - Ontwikkeling en historie van een militair werkpaard

Few Dutch military personnel, both professional and conscripted, have not encountered the now-iconic four-tonner. As the days of this vehicle type are numbered after nearly half a century, many still harbor warm sentiments for the old and reliable 'tonner.'

This book covers the complete history of the DAF YA 4440 and YA 4442: from the decision in the mid-1960s to replace the then over ten-year-old vehicles of the 'Dikke DAF family,' to their use in the armed forces and the inevitable decommissioning.

E

xtensive attention is also given to the testing and further development of the prototypes, a process not without its challenges but ultimately resulting in an exceptionally versatile vehicle that served in all branches of the military.

Even experts on this vehicle type will discover, after reading this book, that many often unknown facts and interesting details have come to light. All of this is illustrated through carefully compiled tables, various vehicle specifications, and over three hundred, mostly unpublished, photos and images.
