Tracteurs Renault, une histoire en prospectus (tome 1) : 1918-1968

On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the construction of the first Renault agricultural tractor, relive the progress of this legendary brand.
Louis Renault, the iconic founder of the French automobile industry, was also interested in the agricultural world. In 1917, faced with a shortage of agricultural labor and the requisition of horses by the army, he put his experience in manufacturing tanks for the army to the benefit of agriculture by creating the "agricultural tank". This is how the first tests began on his farm in Herqueville, Normandy.

Discover the evolution of the Renault tractor through more than 400 advertisements dating from 1918 to 1968. Enjoy a trip through the advertising past of the Renault tractor!

Tracteurs Renault, une histoire en prospectus (tome 3) : 1989-2005

This volume 3 completes the trilogy on Renault tractor advertising. The period 1989-2005 is particularly interesting, there were nearly 490 different models offered by Renault including the Celtis which marked a new evolution both technically and aesthetically.

It was also during these years that Renault expanded its partnerships, notably with Massey Ferguson by creating GIMA in 1995 (50% participation), which allowed the release of the Arès in 1997. Finally, the application of the TIER Standard brought many modifications which have been largely detailed in this album.

Encyclopédie du tracteur Renault - Tome 2 (1971-2003)

This book follows the first volume and covers the period from 1971 to the present day. The philosophy remains the same: to be as exhaustive as possible in the chronology of the manufacture of Renault tractors, and to provide the widest possible range of information, starting with the company and documenting each model to fully understand technological developments.

This period is rich in developments, both in terms of the company and the tractor. What are the strong points? A clear progression of the 4x4 market, synchronized reverser gearboxes, close collaboration with Carraro for the construction of front axles, new safety standards for cabins, and, at the same time, consideration of the farmer's comfort.

Maintaining the market allowed Renault to launch a real High range in 1974, and especially in 1981, with the release of the TX Range. This was the beginning of on-board electronics, and Renault Agriculture, in conjunction with Renault Automobiles, constantly improved the performance of its equipment until the launch, in 1997, of Ares with Powershift gearboxes, then Atles in 1999.

The technical descriptions in this book were mostly produced based on documentation from the Renault Agriculture Training Center.
It is therefore a didactic form that dominates for the technical diagrams, especially since it was not realistic to make this book a repair manual. During this period, we move from traditional mechanics to electronic sophistication, and this in 30 years!

You will find in this volume a detailed presentation of nearly 450 models declined by range with their different evolutions, and also illustrated with photos, technical drawings and advertisements.

Encyclopédie du tracteur Renault - Tome 3 (2000-2005)

With this new encyclopedia the trilogy on the Renault Agricultural Tractor ends. Nearly 1000 pages in three volumes dedicated to the Renault Tractor, a unique collection. After 693 863 Renault tractors manufactured from 1918 to 2005, representing 808 models, Renault passed the baton to Claas (figures recorded at the end of 2005 when only a few Ergos remained manufactured under the Renault brand).
At the beginning of the 1990s, the manufacturer Renault decided to renew its entire range of tractors, and this is how many new models appeared.

Between 1918 and 2005, Renault produced nearly 700 000 tractors of 808 different models, including a certain range produced in the 2000s, distinguished by the name of an ancient god that its tractors bear, such as Atles, Ergos, Dionis Fructus or Pales, but also by the application of the Tier anti-pollution standard, which brought about profound changes throughout the Renault Agriculture range.

Richly illustrated and very well documented, the book presents all the models and the many improvements made to the Renault agricultural tractor at the beginning of the 21st century under the subsidiary specializing in agricultural equipment Renault Agriculture, sold 51% to the German group Claas in 2003 before becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of the group from 2008.

Published in October 2006 by Éditions ETAI, "Encyclopédie du Tracteur Renault (2000-2005) Tome 3" is the third volume produced by Jacques and Jérémy Gouet, after the release of "Tome 1 1919-1970" and "Tome 2, depuis 1971" in 2003, which covered the beginning of the activity, then the details of all production from the beginning to 2000.

Encyclopédie du tracteur Renault - Tome 1 (1919-1970)

The history of the Renault tractor is closely linked to the history of our country, but also to the evolution of Renault automobile technologies. Of course, the name Renault is much more attached to the evolution of the automobile than to the tractor.
It is to repair this "injustice" that it seemed necessary to the author to produce the most exhaustive Encyclopedia possible of the production of the Renault tractor.

This first volume covering the period 1919-1970 is interesting from several points of view. In 1918, Renault, with his experience acquired with the FT tank during the First World War, and deeply feeling the lack of agricultural labor (he owned a farm in Hercqueville), created the first "agricultural" tank.
From this first experience, he devoted an entire workshop (D14 in Billancourt) to the construction of tractors. The Le Mans site had already been acquired, but construction of buildings would not begin until 1936. The Second World War would thwart his plans; the Le Mans and Billancourt factories would be bombed several times, and the interruption of tractor construction would give free rein to foreign competition.

Pages of the book Encyclopedie du tracteur Renault T1 (1919-1970) (1)

Renault's big comeback came in 1956 with the release of the "D" series and the famous D22. Renault began to experience success with its tractors at this time, so much so that many believe that Renault only started producing tractors from this date.

But the market decline at the end of the 1960s dealt a blow to the entire profession and Renault had to equip itself with a more powerful range. After the Master, a real hydraulic power station, it was the Renault 94 and 96 in 1969 that attempted to conquer this new market.

In addition to the history of the company, more than 100 models covering the period 1918-1970 are described with their technical evolution, and are illustrated with photos, technical drawings and advertisements from the time.
