The Morgan 3 Wheeler : Back to the Future!

In the early years of the 21st century, the Morgan Motor Company decided to return to the configuration of its origins, with a new 3 Wheeler. One reason for this decision was that it could no longer sell its four-wheelers in the USA, due to the costs of meeting increasingly restrictive legislation on emissions and accident safety becoming prohibitive for a small manufacturer. The 3 Wheeler, classed as a motorcycle, bypasses these complex requirements.
By coincidence, an American three-wheeler, the Liberty Ace (itself a modernised recreation of the V-Twin Morgan Super Sports of the 1930s) was selected as the starting point. Morgan then designed and engineered the new model in an astonishingly short period. The management thought it might sell a few hundred 3 Wheelers; however, orders flooded in after its launch at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, leading to considerable complications.
This is the story of how all that happened and how an eccentric sports car with an American engine and a Japanese gearbox is, nevertheless, quintessentially English.

Features:
- Why Morgan decided to go back to the configuration of its origins
- How the modern 3 Wheeler came about
- How it was designed and engineered, and how it's built
- What it's like to drive a 3 Wheeler
- Strengths and weak points - how the factory has improved the Morgan
- Could you be an M3W owner?
- Factory options and aftermarket mods
- A look at other three-wheelers on the market ... and a few that didn't quite make it into production
- Dynasty - the Morgan family feud
- How the Morgan might be developed in the future

Making a Morgan - 17 days of craftmanship: step-by-step from specification sheet to finished car

Morgan's way of producing cars is unique. In this day and age, the company still makes use of real craftsmanship in every aspect of building its characterful cars, and every Morgan can be made to a bespoke specification to suit the individual customer's wishes. In Making a Morgan, the reader accompanies a very traditional model, a Morgan Plus 4, through every step of its build, from customer specification sheet to finished car - a process that, in this instance, takes 17 days.

During their stay in Malvern, the authors spent every day at the Pickersleigh Road factory and, in doing so, established a real rapport with the the Morgan craftsmen and craftswomen. A rapport that allows this book to present a truly intimate portrait of the individuals who so proudly build Morgans, and the painstaking way they go about their work. Featuring some 380 images, including a range of archive photos from the Morgan factory, this is a rare overview of a unique, and very British, manufacturing tradition.

Never before in over 100 years of rich history has the Morgan production process been documented in such detail.

Morgan at Le Mans

A minnow in a rather large pond - that was Morgan at Le Mans. There they were, one of Britain's smallest car manufacturers, competing with the big boys of Ferrari, Porsche and Mercedes.
The story of their Le Mans is one of triumph and tragedy, of David against Goliath, yet they managed to gain entry to the exclusive race and, despite their car retiring at the eighteenth hour in 2003, they had seen off the Ferraris, MGs and Porsches in the GT Class.

In 2004, Morgan returned to Le Mans, finishing the race to the cheers of thousands of Brits who had crossed the Channel to see the team triumph. David Dowse, Morgan's press officer (and the Le Mans racing team manager) at the time, tells the story of Morgan at Le Mans.
