De Nederlandse Stoomlocomotieven

Voor fans van stoomtreinen, spoorweghistorici en geïnteresseerden zijn eerdere uitgaven van H. Waldorp's werk over Nederlandse stoomtreinen een belangrijke referentie geworden. Zelfs zij die deze treinen niet hebben meegemaakt, beschouwen Waldorp's werk als een betrouwbare bron van informatie.

Deze nieuwe editie is historisch nauwkeuriger en bevat meer technische details. De tekst is volledig herzien, met behoud van oude informatie, maar herschreven en uitgebreid.
Fouten zijn gecorrigeerd en leemtes in de geschiedenis zijn opgevuld. Er is nieuw onderzoek gedaan en meer literatuur geraadpleegd. Vergelijkingen met buitenlandse treinen zijn toegevoegd, evenals informatie over leveranciers aan Nederland en chefs van Tractie bij verschillende spoorwegmaatschappijen.
Het fotoarchief is vernieuwd en er zijn nieuwe foto's toegevoegd, inclusief zeldzame beelden zoals een foto uit 1856 van een breedspoortrein van de Hollandse Spoor, uniek vanwege zijn leeftijd. De machinist draagt zelfs een witte jas!

Lodewijk Derens - Nederlands eerste spoorwegfotograaf, 1880-1956

Lodewijk - or Lou - Derens (1880-1956) was the first photographer in the Netherlands who photographed and documented as many Dutch steam locomotives of his time as possible. His first shots date from 1894. He continued to photograph until after the Second World War, with the focus of his activities in the years between 1910 and 1938.

His work is of great importance to the Netherlands, especially because he - often the only one - recorded some steam locomotives that were about to be scrapped for posterity in this way.

He was not only active in the Netherlands, he also photographed in the surrounding European countries in those same years, which resulted in special and beautiful images. Belgium, France, England, Germany and Austria were the destination of his travels between 1910 and 1934 and he also managed to take interesting pictures there.

The name Derens is not unknown in circles of enthusiasts of the history and development of the steam locomotive. A number of his photos have been used before, but here many previously unknown photos are printed for the first time.
Thus, with this book, the name and work of Lodewijk Derens become widely known.

Stoom bij NS in de jaren dertig: Nederlandse stoomlocomotieven door Britse fotografen geportretteerd

In the 1930s, British railway enthusiasts visited our country to photograph NS steam locomotives. The appearance of the Dutch rolling stock reminded them in many ways of the locomotives on their own railway network. And not without reason.
The photos that the British took here were of sublime quality. Forty years after their visit, some prints (cropped and in small format) were for sale in the so-called Photomatic collection. In addition, there is the little-known negative collection of photographer Ransome-Wallis, which is now in the National Railway Museum in York.

Here and there a number of British photos have been used for publications, but a comprehensive photographic report of what the British captured on film here has been lacking until now. "Steam at NS in the thirties" is now changing that.
This book shows numerous, previously unpublished photos and also presents them in a coherence, provided with many details that were previously unknown. And precisely because the British took beautiful, sharp shots at the time, these photos come into their own in large format. This is a tribute to the British photographers, who with their beautiful photos give us a glimpse into a time when steam traction was already on the decline but was still not to be missed.

Stoomtractie van de wederopbouw - Buitenlandse locs bij NS 1945-1958

Poco después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, los Ferrocarriles Neerlandeses (NS) buscaban una modernización a gran escala. Las locomotoras de vapor no tenían futuro en la Holanda de posguerra, pero el material rodante dañado o perdido hizo que NS no pudiera prescindir del vapor en los primeros años.

Construir cientos de locomotoras de vapor nuevas habría sido demasiado costoso, ya que NS esperaba utilizarlas solo por un tiempo limitado. Por ello, también se consideró la compra de locomotoras de segunda mano.
Entre 1945 y 1946, NS puso en servicio varias series adquiridas al War Department británico y a los ferrocarriles suizos. Además, se utilizaron locomotoras alemanas que quedaron en Países Bajos y se construyeron cincuenta locomotoras nuevas en Suecia.

Algunas series estuvieron en servicio solo unos pocos años, otras hasta el fin de la tracción a vapor en 1958. Todas contribuyeron a la reconstrucción del ferrocarril neerlandés y a la recuperación económica del país.
Este libro presenta la historia de estas series de locomotoras en palabras e imágenes. Eelco Storm recopiló muchas fotografías inéditas para "Stoomtractie van de wederopbouw".
