The /5 series, equipped with the new plain bearing engine, enjoyed great sales success in the 1970s and formed the basis for BMW's continuous expansion of its model range. From sport models like the R 90 S, R 100 S, and R 100 CS to touring and police models that achieved high sales figures, the book chronologically covers the models from the R 50/5 through the R 90 S, R 100 RT, and R 100 GS, as well as the final model, the R 80 GS Basic.

Johann Kleine Vennekate offers a comprehensive insight into the technical and historical development of the two-valve boxer motorcycles that, with its Berlin production facility, made BMW one of the most important two-wheeler brands in the world.
