Les ailes de l'armée de Terre

Initially born from the sole needs of artillery, then from those of the land fighter to free himself from the contingencies of the terrain, the air resources of the Army were quickly structured by operations in the Indochinese and Algerian theaters.
In 1954, the French Army Light Aviation was officially created, which, present since then in all theaters of operations, has constantly been able to renew and adapt its modes of action. A maturation that has made this weapon evolve from air mobility to air combat, today a decisive asset of the forces. Escadron de chasse La Fayette - de Nieuport au Mirage 2000N

At the beginning of the First World War, a group of young American volunteers wanted to join the French Air Force and fight alongside France. They dreamed of forming a squadron composed of American pilots.
In April 1916, Squadron No. 124, called the American Escadrille, was created in Luxeuil. Named Escadrille La Fayette in December 1916, it occupied a legendary place in the history of the Air Force.
Over the years, associated with SPA 167, then SPA 160, 96 and 81, N 124 was transformed into a Fighter Group and then into Fighter Squadron 2/4 La Fayette in November 1949.
