DKW: the Complete History of a World Marque
Long considered the definitive book on DKW (Dampf-Kraft-Wagen), this classic book is now available in a complete English language edition. Featuring over 640 color and black and white images, it covers all of the automobiles and motorcycles manufactured by the legendary DKW from its founding in the early twentieth century to its closing in the 1960s. Described in detail are the technical developments of the famed two-stroke engine, thanks to which DKW earned its excellent worldwide reputation. Prior to World War II, DKW was the world's largest producer of motorcycles with great success in both the racing and civilian markets. Clearly presented is the complex company history, including its 1932 merger with Audi, Horch and Wanderer to form the Auto Union, and later takeover by Daimler-Benz then Volkswagen. Many of the superb quality images come from factory archives and include manufacturing views, as well as line schemes and plans.
The original German edition publisher Frank Rönicke, who knew the author Siegfried Rauch (1906-1997) personally and was able to inherit his archive, has revised and supplemented the original text for this new edition and added a series of color photos to this classic of DKW literature.

For the first time, a complex and thoroughly prepared work on the demanding history of Zschopau DKW motorcycle racing is now available in book form. Both authors are closely connected to the DKW brand and live in the vicinity of the former Zschopau DKW factory and are already well-known in the scene through various publications on DKW and MZ.
Through their decades of recognized collection and preservation work of historical DKW motorcycle and automobile technology and targeted collection of material and facts, a sound, serious basis for the book now available has been created and matured. This extensive book format was chosen in order to make the wealth of highly interesting, in part unique historical material available to all interested parties in a prepared form.

As a follow-up to the title "Die große Zeit des DKW-Motorradrennsports - 1920 bis1941", the authors Lange/Buschmann have now published an extensive treatise on DKW motorcycle off-road racing. In this extensive documentation, with mostly previously unknown illustrations, the great DKW off-road racing commitment is presented in an authentic and comprehensible manner and described concisely and understandably.
The aim of this book is to bring to mind an important period of historical motorcycle sport with a focus on the successful DKW two-stroke motorcycle technology of the Zschopau DKW factory. It describes the technical development, names the most important successes, pays tribute to the players and documents this with plenty of original photos in high quality and with meaningful information. The statement from 1938: "DKW has shaped motorsport like hardly any other motorcycle manufacturer" is also understandable after reading this book about motorcycle off-road sport.

Starting in 1945, August Prüßing developed a two-stroke opposed piston engine with two cylinders and a Centrix compressor in Chemnitz on behalf of the Soviet Military Administration in Germany (SMAD). The basic design was conceived for displacements of 250 350 and 500 cc. This engine was the last new design of a supercharged two-stroke engine and thus the end of a glorious era in which DKW had played a prominent role in international motorcycle racing since the 1920s and 1930s.
The entire wealth of experience from almost two decades of DKW racing development was reflected in an extraordinary design that dominated racing in the USSR well into the 1950s.
In a modified form, the design briefly revived in a self-built vehicle by the private driver Kurt Kuhnke from Braunschweig, only to lose its right to exist when the FIM banned compressors internationally in 1950. This documentation aims to keep alive the memory of a milestone in motorcycle racing about which little has been known up to now.
