Framo & Barkas: Transporter, Lieferwagen, Kleinbusse 1926 bis 1991
The history of the legendary vehicle brand Framo begins in 1926 with the construction of simple three-wheeled two-stroke motorcycles. Before the Second World War, this had developed into a wide range of vehicles with four-wheeled small trucks.
In 1949, the remnants of the West Saxon vehicle industry were combined to form the "Industrial Association for Vehicle Construction IFA", which later included all vehicle manufacturers in the GDR. The Framo works were there from the beginning and had to call themselves Barkas works from 1956 onwards. The Barkas B 1000, with its many variants and very different bodies, developed into the counterpart of the VW Bulli, which was popular not only in the GDR.

Framo & Barkas: Transporter, Lieferwagen, Kleinbusse 1926 bis 1991
In 1961, the Barkas B 1000 was one of the few completely newly designed vehicles in the GDR car industry that went into series production. The light transporter was used in all areas of everyday socialist life, in private life as well as by the police and others. While it was initially technically on a par with the transporters from the West, development stagnated from the end of the 1960s onwards. The standard achieved by the ?Blitz? at that time was continued to be built almost unchanged until the fall of the Wall.
Torsten Langbein documents the history of the express transporter from the beginning to the end of production in 1991 and describes all models and variants that were created during this period.
