André Lefebvre entwarf zusammen mit seinen Kollegen bei Citroën mehrere legendäre Modelle: den Traction Avant (1934), den TUB (1939) - Citroëns ersten frontgetriebenen Lieferwagen, gefolgt von den H- und HY-Transportern (1947) -, die 2 CV (1948) und die DS (1955).

Von 1923 bis 1931 entwickelte er zudem innovative Renn- und Rekordfahrzeuge für Voisin, von denen er einige selbst fuhr. Seine Zusammenarbeit mit Gabriel Voisin, einem Luftfahrtpionier und Automobilhersteller, prägte maßgeblich seine Ingenieurskunst.

Mit diesem Erfahrungsschatz überzeugte er seine Vorgesetzten bei Citroën von seinen unkonventionellen Ideen: erst André Citroën, dann Pierre Michelin, Pierre-Jules Boulanger, Robert Puiseux und Pierre Bercot.

Seine Arbeit für Citroën sichert ihm einen Ehrenplatz unter den großen Automobildesignern des 20. Jahrhunderts. Sein Einfluss zeigt sich noch heute in modernen Fahrzeugen, was die Zeitlosigkeit seiner Konzepte beweist. Dennoch ist dieser brillante Ingenieur der breiten Öffentlichkeit kaum bekannt.
