André Lefebvre ontwierp samen met zijn collega's bij Citroën verschillende iconische modellen: de Traction Avant (1934), de TUB (1939) - Citroëns eerste voorwielaangedreven bestelwagen, opgevolgd door de H- en HY-bussen (1947) -, de 2 CV (1948) en de DS (1955).

Tussen 1923 en 1931 ontwikkelde hij ook innovatieve race- en recordauto's voor Voisin, waarvan hij sommige zelf bestuurde. Zijn samenwerking met Gabriel Voisin, een luchtvaartpionier en autofabrikant, beïnvloedde zijn technische visie sterk.

Dankzij deze ervaring wist hij bij Citroën zijn onconventionele ideeën door te zetten. Hij overtuigde André Citroën, Pierre Michelin, Pierre-Jules Boulanger, Robert Puiseux en Pierre Bercot van zijn revolutionaire ontwerpbenadering.

Zijn werk bij Citroën verzekert hem een ereplaats onder de grote autodessinateurs van de 20e eeuw. Zijn invloed is nog steeds zichtbaar in moderne auto's, wat de tijdloosheid van zijn ontwerpen aantoont. Toch blijft deze briljante ingenieur grotendeels onbekend bij het grote publiek.
