German Traction

De par sa situation géographique et sa superficie, l'Allemagne abrite une grande variété de modes de traction. Le principal opérateur est la DB, qui exploite un nombre considérable de trains de marchandises et de voyageurs tractés par des locomotives.

Du côté des passagers, la plupart des principaux centres régionaux conservent des services tractés par des locomotives, allant des classes 111 aux classes 143 et 146, les services InterCity étant assurés par des locomotives électriques de classe 101.
Une grande partie du trafic des trains express de voyageurs est désormais assurée par des rames ICE. On trouve également encore quelques schémas de locomotives diesel, principalement pour les locomotives de la série 218 basées dans les environs d'Ulm et de Munich.

Du côté du fret, il existe un très grand nombre de liaisons assurées à la fois par la DB et par un grand nombre d'entreprises privées.
Les principales locomotives DB utilisées sont les locomotives Class 185 TRAXX ainsi que les locomotives Class 145 et 152, tandis qu'il y a encore quelques grosses locomotives diesel à voir, notamment les locomotives Class 232, connues sous le nom de Ludmillas.

Lors de la réunification de l'Allemagne, de nombreuses locomotives de l'ancienne Allemagne de l'Est ont commencé à apparaître à l'Ouest et vice versa, et les passionnés sont toujours assurés de voir une grande variété de locomotives en action.
