Convois exceptionnels, les monstres de la route (2e édition)
Flashing lights with pilot cars and motorcyclist escort, the road belongs to the Convois Exceptionnels. This book tells the daily life of yesterday and today of French land transport outside the norm, produced by a fan of big trucks, solid trailers and heavy cranes who is also a regional historian, writer and press correspondent.
Preliminary studies, authorizations and traffic conditions, equipment necessary for the transport of indivisible masses are explained and described in these pages illustrated with more than three hundred photographs and drawings.
Readers will find the convoys of yesteryear that contributed to the Trente Glorieuses, the tractors, pullers, pushers, of the 21st century whose power continues to grow in order to transport planes, boats, locomotives, gigantic public works machines, steam generators weighing three or four hundred tons intended for nuclear power plants, but also the wheeled cranes with enormous booms designed to assemble wind turbines over a hundred meters high and load particularly heavy "packages".
Several chapters present the large special transport companies, the manufacturers of trucks and trailers. The tow trucks have not been forgotten in the saga of these transports where men and materials are exceptional.
