Luftwaffe Training Aircraft

Die Ausbildung von Piloten und Besatzungen war ein oft übersehener, aber unverzichtbarer Bestandteil des Luftkrieges. Die Luftwaffe setzte eine große Vielfalt an Schulflugzeugen ein, beginnend mit einfachen Mustern wie der Klemm 35, der Focke-Wulf Fw 44 und der Bücker 131, bis hin zu moderneren Typen wie der Arado Ar 66, der Gotha Go 145 und der Arado Ar 76 sowie größeren Flugzeugen wie der Junkers W33 und W44. Schrittweise wurden die Flugschüler an schnellere und leistungsfähigere Maschinen herangeführt.

Die Grundausbildung begann mit mehreren Monaten an einem Ausbildungsverband, mit Schwerpunkt auf körperlicher Schulung, Disziplin sowie Grundlagen des Funk- und Kartenwesens. Es folgten theoretische Lehrgänge und der Übergang zur fliegerischen Ausbildung.

Je nach späterer Verwendung kamen unterschiedliche Flugzeugtypen zum Einsatz, etwa frühe He 111, Ju 52, Ju 86 und Do 17 für angehende Bomberpiloten. Auch erbeutete Flugzeuge und Ausbildungsstätten in besetzten Gebieten wurden genutzt.
Die ruhige Umgebung der Schulen ermöglichte umfangreiche Fotoaufnahmen, die dieses Werk eindrucksvoll dokumentieren.
