Piper Cub

How to Fly a Piper Cub

Built by Piper Aircraft between 1937 and 1947, the J-3 Cub is one of history's best-known civil aircraft. The Cub's simplicity and affordability led to the plane being dubbed the "Model T of the Sky", and ushered in a new era in aviation in which anyone could fly. Just over 20, 000 Cubs were built, including an enormous number as trainer aircraft during WWII.

Originally printed in 1945, when all Piper production was restricted for military use, this "How to Fly a Piper Cub" booklet looked ahead to the post-war era. Printed in color with rich illustrations, spec sheets and b&w photos, it's a nostalgic piece of history that no Piper fan can resist.

Piper Cherokee - A Family History

After the Cessna 172, the Piper Cherokee is one of the most popular aircraft for the owner/pilot. The Cherokee has been in continuous production since 1960, and a variety of models are made, with engines of differing specifications, to give range and fuel economy variations within the class of aircraft. Four and six-seat versions are made, and some have retractable undercarriage and turbo-charging.

This book describes the heritage and development of the entire Piper Cherokee family; its safety and ownership characteristics; internal and external details; and a range of special variants from STOL modifications and new engines to seaplanes and tailwheel conversions. The hugely successful Piper PA-28 was produced and sold as a direct competitor to the Cessna 172. Initially produced with a rectangular wing planform and fixed undercarriage, it was available with installed powers ranging from 140 to 235 hp. A retractable undercarriage resulted in the Arrow series. The closely related PA-32 Cherokee Six, Saratoga and Six X are larger high performance aircraft. Versions of the PA-32 fitted with retractable undercarriages are the Lance and the sophisticated Saratoga II series.
Over 32,000 Cherokees have been manufactured for both civilian and military use.

Piper Cub, l'avion passion

Born from the fertile imagination of a self-taught engineer, in the heart of the great American economic crisis of 1929, the Piper Cub will have been able to impose itself in a world that thought of anything other than light recreational aviation.
This book traces the history of the men who designed, built and piloted it and in particular Clarence Gilbert Taylor and William Thomas Piper. From its conception to its descendants, through the dark hours of the Second World War, it is a complete look at this aircraft and its derivatives.
Illustrated with numerous photographs and three-view plans, this book also meets the expectations of model makers.

Aerospace industry technician, aeronautical journalist and Piper Cub pilot, André Bréand offers with this complete and detailed study the first historical work in French on the Cub, its ancestors and its derivatives.
