This book does not offer a nostalgic retrospective, but rather aims to describe, as precisely as possible, the beginning, course, and end of motor scooter production in East Germany, which began over fifty years ago. The challenges faced by manufacturers and customers prove to be fascinating and, at times, bizarre.
IWL produced the Pitty, Wiesel, Berlin, and TROLL models. To shed light on this topic, extensive research was conducted in archives, contemporary witnesses were interviewed, and the author's personal experiences were drawn upon.
The author worked in motor scooter manufacturing from 1954 to 1965 in various roles, including automotive mechanic, test driver, customer service technician, and quality assurance employee. This experience provides the book with insights into the economic performance, management, and political climate of that era.
