Po I wojnie światowej Niemcy i Włochy zaczęły rozwijać swój przemysł lotniczy i poszukiwać nowych możliwości rozszerzenia swojej globalnej obecności. Jednocześnie Ameryka Łacińska była regionem o słabo rozwiniętym systemie transportowym i trudnym terenie, a jej siły powietrzne były praktycznie nieobecne.

Dzięki niemieckim i włoskim imigrantom przemysł lotniczy Ameryki Łacińskiej wkrótce znalazł żyzny grunt dla sprzedaży swoich produktów, rozwijając pierwsze linie lotnicze w regionie i zwiększając zainteresowanie lokalnym lotnictwem wojskowym.
Na lotnictwo komercyjne, w tym na Scadtę, drugą co do wielkości linię lotniczą świata, ogromny wpływ miał niemiecki przemysł lotniczy, którego tradycja sięga ponad 40 lat, podczas gdy wojsko koncentrowało się na samolotach włoskich.

The pilots of aviation's pioneering period flew by sight and feel and mistrusted the few instruments that were available. The First World War brought mass production of aircraft and the first standards for instruments and equipment.
The 1930s and 1940s represented the apex of German aircraft development, producing distant-reading compass systems, radio navigation aids, electric multiple indicators and autopilots.
