Woodies - Amerikanische Autoträume aus Holz und Stahl

In den 1930er, 40er und 50er Jahren blühte die Mode der Woodies. Kombis, aber auch Limousinen und sogar Cabriolets erhielten echtes (und teils auch falsches) hölzernes Dekor oder gar ganze Aufbauten nach alter Kutschenbausitte.
Mahagoni und Esche und weitere feine Sorten behielten unter Klarlack - der freilich wie beim Holzboot jedes Jahr aufgefrischt sein wollte - ihre natürliche Anmutung. Das Blech der Chrysler Town and Country, der Buick Roadmaster, der Ford und Mercury Station Wagon und Sportsman und all der anderen Woodie-Varianten bis hin zum Packard Station Sedan war dann gern dunkelblau, kastanienbraun oder flaschengrün lackiert.
