Kawasaki W, H1 & Z - The Big Air-cooled Machines

The story of the air-cooled 'big' Kawasaki bikes in definitive detail, researched and written in Japan with the full co-operation of the factory.
This series of models put the company on the map during the sixties and seventies, helping it to survive a difficult era that saw hundreds of Japanese motorcycle makers reduced to just four.

Successful immediately, these models defended Kawasaki's honour on the tracks as well as in the showrooms, handing the company numerous world championship titles. The series was recently revived as part of a retro boom, and a new machine has been launched, delivering the same thrill and charm as its predecessors.

Kawasaki, l'histoire

The Kawasaki name has been famous since the 1970s for its exceptional motorcycles and the victories of its racing machines. The epic of this Japanese firm began in 1878 under the leadership of a genius pioneer, Shozo Kawasaki, builder of an industrial empire in many fields, shipbuilding, rail transport, public works, aviation, automobile, then aerospace and high technologies.
But, for enthusiasts, it is the motorcycles that are at the heart of Kawasaki's extraordinary success.

This unparalleled reference book describes in minute detail all of the brand's models from 1952 to the present day, in both touring and competition, from the formidable 500 Mach III of the 1970s to the fabulous Ninja of today, not forgetting the track record of all the riders entered by Kawasaki in speed, cross or endurance.

Kawasaki, les motos rebelles

Kawasaki has acquired its solid reputation by playing the card of individualization and identification. Over time, it has managed to forge an image of sportiness and performance that the brand still enjoys today, particularly in France.
Kawasaki needed at least that to differentiate itself from other Japanese manufacturers. Because unlike its predecessors, which emerged from the textile crisis (Suzuki), from the manufacture of pianos and musical instruments (Yamaha) or from the vision of a charismatic entrepreneur (Honda), the Kawasaki group has been established in heavy metallurgy since the 19th century.

Today, it continues to produce diesel, turbine and jet engines, locomotives, buses, planes, helicopters, cargo ships and container ships, jet skis, even robots and incineration plants... and also motorcycles.

It is therefore not surprising that "Kawa" has always skillfully maintained its difference in their subject, regularly playing the maverick. Its history remains forever linked to the release of models that have remained legendary for two-wheel enthusiasts.
They have the code name: H1, H2 or 900 Z1. Each of these motorcycles corresponds to a stage in the evolution of Kawasaki. It is this story that the third part of the Motofocus collection invites you to relive through an overview of Kawasaki's production from its beginnings to the 1990s, illustrated by beautiful unpublished photos of the brand's emblematic models.
