Quad, tout les modèles

L'apparition du premier quad, ou ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) remonte aux années 1950, en disposant, à l'époque, de six roues. Celui-ci se démocratise vers les années 1970, par le lancement de l'All-Terrain Cycle (ATC) à trois roues, par le constructeur japonais Honda.
Ce n'est qu'en 1983 qu'on voit sortir le premier quad à quatre roues par le constructeur nippon Suzuki baptisé : QuadRunner LT125. Trois années plus tard, Honda lance le premier quad à quatre roues motrices : le FourTrax TRX350 4×4.

Au fil des années, une véritable concurrence se met en place, opposant plusieurs constructeurs motos du Japon (Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki et Honda), d'Espagne (Gas Gas), d'Autriche (KTM), de Taiwan (Kymco et Sym), des États-Unis (Arctic Cat et Polaris) et du Canada (BRP) ...
De ce fait, le quad connaît un succès considérable aux États-Unis avant de s'exporter à l'Europe. En France, le quad se révèle plutôt durant les années 1990, pour connaître une grande expansion, notamment avec l'apparition des " quadricycles " homologués. Chaque année, des milliers d'exemplaires de quads sont vendus en France.
