The Bernese Oberland Railway has been connecting the two tourist resorts of Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald from Interlaken since 1890, and with the opening of the Wengernalp Railway (1893) and the Jungfrau Railway (1912) it took on an important feeder function to the well-known excursion destinations in the Jungfrau region.
