Andre Lefebvre and the cars he created for Voisin and Citroën

André Lefebvre, together with his colleagues at Citroën, designed several iconic models: the Traction Avant (1934), the TUB (1939) - Citroën's first front-wheel-drive utility van, later replaced by the H and HY vans (1947) - the 2 CV (1948), and the DS (1955).

From 1923 to 1931, he also created innovative racing and record-breaking cars for Voisin, some of which he personally drove. His time with Gabriel Voisin, an aviation pioneer and car manufacturer, greatly influenced his engineering approach.

Building on this experience, he convinced Citroën's leadership of his unconventional design ideas. He persuaded André Citroën, Pierre Michelin, Pierre-Jules Boulanger, Robert Puiseux, and Pierre Bercot to adopt his vision.

His work at Citroën places him among the greatest automotive designers of the 20th century. His influence remains visible in modern cars, demonstrating the lasting relevance of his concepts. Yet, this remarkable engineer remains relatively unknown to the public.
