Ford Focus WRC - The auto-biography of a rally champion

When the World Rally Championship introduced the "World Rally Car" regulations, Ford took the opportunity to develop a new car. M-Sport, led by Malcolm Wilson, was tasked with the project, designing and building the Focus WRC in under a year. Over the next 12 years, M-Sport competed globally with this turbocharged, four-wheel-drive car.

Operating from modern facilities, M-Sport produced 97 Focus WRCs, which won 44 World Rally Championship events. Renowned drivers such as Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Markko Märtin, Marcus Grönholm, and Mikko Hirvonen contributed to its success. Major sponsors included Martini, BP, and Abu Dhabi.

M-Sport developed the entire car for Ford, gradually taking over responsibility for its 2.0-litre, 300 bhp turbocharged engine and the advanced four-wheel-drive system from Xtrac. When regulations changed, M-Sport quickly introduced the next-generation Fiesta WRC, continuing its success.
