Presented at the 1964 Turin Motor Show, the Fiat 850 undoubtedly marked the apogee of the rear-engined models that the Turin giant had made a specialty of. A measured evolution of the modest 600, the new Fiat appeared both faster and more habitable than its predecessor. Very much in tune with its time, this small city car revealed very interesting sporting potential.

The factory very quickly produced an elegant coupé, entrusting Nuccio Bertone with the task of creating an even more exclusive spider. The most renowned tuners on the peninsula also seized on it. Stung with scorpion venom, the Abarth derivatives displayed monstrous performances. Moretti and Vignale distinguished themselves by equipping it with a multitude of specific trims, while Siata designed an unusual neo-retro roadster. A real success story that would not end until the mid-1970s...
