Se è vero che il motore V12 è il frazionamento da sempre considerato più iconico per le stradali - e non solo - uscite dalla fabbrica di Maranello, è altrettanto vero che alla metà degli anni Settanta fu una vettura a 8 cilindri a proiettare definitivamente la Ferrari verso una dimensione industriale. La 308 GTB, apparsa al Salone di Parigi del 1975, fu il modello capace di conferire una nuova immagine alle berlinette Ferrari, immagine figlia ancora una volta dell'estro di Leonardo Fioravanti. Ferrari F40

La Ferrari F40 fece ben più che scalpore quando vide la luce nel 1987, per le sue linee a dir poco "prosperose", per la poderosa meccanica "quasi tutta a vista", che prometteva prestazioni mai viste prima, e per il fascino che emanava da qualsiasi prospettiva la si guardasse. L
'ultima Gran Turismo del Cavallino "approvata" da Enzo Ferrari è la protagonista di questa monografia a firma di Gaetano Derosa, un volume che parte da lontano analizzando le "antenate" dell'F40: dalla 250 LM del 1963 alla 308 "Millechiodi" del 1977 per arrivare alla 288 GTO del 1984 e alla GTO Evoluzione del 1986.

A raccontare l'evoluzione tecnica e stilistica della F40 sono anche gli artefici di quella Ferrari doc: da Leonardo Fioravanti, nella duplice veste di designer e all'epoca vicepresidente della Casa di Maranello, a Nicola Materazzi che definì il "mostruoso" 8 cilindri che spingeva la vettura, sino allo stesso Piero Ferrari che fu fra i grandi sostenitori del progetto F40 Le Mans.

Nel libro, tra l'altro, compare una delle ultime interviste rilasciate dall'ingegner Materazzi, scomparso poco prima della pubblicazione del volume. L'opera si conclude con un ampio capitolo dedicato all'impegno dell'F40 nelle corse, dai Campionati GT e monomarca sino al ritorno alla 24 Ore di Le Mans.

This book tells the story of the four eight-cylinder turbo-charged road Ferrari of the 80's: from the 208 turbo to the F40; with references to the Formula 1 cars from which these models derived. Apart from the stories, it includes over 300 colour, as well as black and white, images.

The story begins with the origins of the eight-cylinder Ferrari range, and their evolution - explaining the reasons that led to the supercharged models through anecdotes, recollections from some of the people directly involved in the developments, and the Author's personal memories of the era and its cars.
It goes on to describe, with detailed information and images, the turbocharged road Ferrari of the 80's, in particular the two-litre versions.

The story is enriched by original interviews with many of the experts who were involved, in various ways, in the realization of these cars - including the legendary Engineer Mauro Forghieri, and a comment from the era by Commendatore Enzo Ferrari himself.
