La DAF de mon père

Unveiled at the 1959 Amsterdam Motor Show with a 600 cc twin engine, the DAF cars remained in production until 1975, ending with the 66 powered by Renault.
Its key feature was the Variomatic continuously variable transmission, using pulleys and toothed belts to offer almost endless ratios. This system made the DAF very smooth and easy to drive, although it was often seen as a car for inexperienced drivers.

DAF cars nevertheless proved their ability in major international rallies, winning their class several times. Coupled with more powerful engines, the Variomatic was also used in single-seaters and prototypes with more than 200 horsepower. In 1975, Volvo bought the small Dutch brand and continued to use the Variomatic in the 340 series until 1982.

Richly illustrated, this book covers the history and development of the DAF models built from 1959 to 1975, including the 600, 750, Daffodil, 33, 44, 46, 55 and 66. It explains the technology, variants, modifications and special versions, and includes more than 200 period photos, many previously unpublished.
