Aston Martin V8

Aston Martin began developing its V8 engine in 1963 to replace the six-cylinder engines used since the 1950 DB2. In 1966, work started on a new GT model, set to debut alongside the engine in October 1967. Despite a tight schedule, Aston Martin completed the car on time, introducing the DBS.

However, the V8 engine was not ready for another two years, so the DBS was initially fitted with the older Lagonda engine. Heavier than its predecessor, it was slower but more refined. When the V8 finally arrived, the DBS became one of the fastest, safest, and most advanced GT cars of its time. It set a new standard for Aston Martin and its competitors for the next 30 years.

The last of the 5.016 V8-powered cars, a Volante Special Edition, left the factory on 20 October 2000, marking the end of an era.
