Volkswagen Type 4 - 411 and 412 : The final rear-engined VW cars

This in-depth study of the VW Type 4, Wolfsburg's first luxury car and Volkswagen's final all new air-cooled car, is dedicated to Volkswagen's 411 and 412 models. VW 1500 / 1600 - Typ 3 (1961-1973)

Entre 1961 et 1973 l'usine de Wolfsburg a produit 2.6 million exemplaires des voitures VW 1500 et 1600 (Typ 3). Déclinée en versions sedan, break et Fastback coupé, la gamme était complétée par des beaux cabriolets et coupés signés Karmann-Ghia.

Ce livre allemand de la série Schrader Typen Chronik est une bonne source d'information concernant le développement, la production, l'évolution et les nombreuses versions de cette première Volkswagen de la classe moyenne. Volkswagen Typ 3: Geschichte, Technik, Varianten

Mit dem Typ 3 lieferte VW ab 1961 sein erstes Mittelklasse-Modell aus. Eigentlich war er ein Käfer mit Kofferaum, nicht wirklich groß, nach Abmessungen und Neupreis auch eher ein Kleinwagen. Aber wegen des vergleichsweise großen Hubraums wurde er zur Mittelklasse gezählt. Als VW 1500 wurde auf der 40. IAA in Frankfurt vorgestellt und bis 1980 wurden mehr als 3 Millionen Exemplare gebaut.
