Turbulent Journey - The Jumo Engine, Operation Paperclip, and the American Dream

Germany built the first operational jet aircraft during World War II, the Messerschmitt Me 262. Siegfried Decher was part of the engineering team that designed the engines that powered the 262. At the end of the war, Decher was nearly stranded in the Soviet Occupation Zone, but the US military made contact and offered a way out.
As the principal responsible for a control system in the Jumo engine, Decher was of value to the Allies. Plans to evacuate during Operation Paperclip fell through. After a detour in France, Decher reached American shores several years later, where he enjoyed a successful career in the civil aviation industry.

This untold story of early jet development, surviving the collapse of the Reich, and starting over in America is recounted by Siegfried's son, Reiner. Reiner, an accomplished engineer in his own right, constructs the story through a combination of his own memories and original letters and documents from his family archive.

Die letzten Junkers Flugzeuge (II) - Junkers Ju 52, AAC.1 und CASA 352

With almost 5 000 aircraft built, the Junkers Ju 52 is, alongside the Junkers Ju88, the most-built aircraft model by Junkers Flugzeug- and Motorenwerke AG between 1930 and 1944.
Another 700 aircraft were built after the war at Ateliers Aeronautiques Colombes (A.A.C.) in France and at Construcciones Aeronáuticas SA (CASA) in Spain. The last aircraft were assembled at the Spanish CASA in 1954.

Most of the Ju 52s were lost in combat during World War II. The numerous civilian Ju 52s that still existed after the war were mostly decommissioned and dismantled by the end of the 1950s due to a lack of spare parts.
By the beginning of the 1960s, Ju 52s were only still in use by the French, Spanish, Portuguese and Swiss air forces. The last Ju 52s were taken out of service in Switzerland in the early 1980s.

As early as 1958, a first Ju 52 from the French Air Force's inventory was brought to the German Museum in Munich. In total, around 50 aircraft of German, French and Spanish production still exist today. Seven of these are still in flight. A further 5-6 aircraft are still at the sites where they crashed.

This second volume in the series of books on the inventory of Junkers aircraft still in existence today is devoted in detail to the individual history of these 50 Ju 52s still in existence today and their French and Spanish replicas.

Die letzten Junkers-Flugzeuge (I) - Frühe Junkers-Entwicklungen von der Junkers J1 bis zur Junkers A50

This book series is an inventory of the Junkers aircraft that still exist today, as well as the replicas that have since been manufactured, and documents the history of these devices.
The first volume deals with the early Junkers developments that were created under the leadership of Hugo Junkers up to 1932.

Of the early developments covered in this first volume, around 1 300 aircraft were built by 1932. Only 16 original aircraft have survived to this day. Six other exhibits are replicas.
In addition, there are three airworthy Junkers-like aircraft in England and the USA that were built on the basis of a Bowers low-wing aircraft.
The Rimowa aircraft factory in Switzerland built an airworthy Junkers F13 replica that made its first flight in 2016. A replica of the first Junkers aircraft, the J1, which was lost in a bombing raid in Munich in 1944, is currently being built in the Technology Museum in Dessau.

Die letzten Junkers-Flugzeuge (III) - Junkers Ju 86, Ju 87, Ju 88., Ju 90, Ju 388 und Baade 152

Of the approximately 30 000 Junkers aircraft that were built from 1915 in the thirty-year history of the Junkers production network, more than 24 000 aircraft were bombers and reconnaissance aircraft of the Junkers Ju 86, Ju 87, Ju 88 type, as well as their further developments. Only five aircraft survived the post-war period in England and the USA.

Due to the small number of original aircraft still in existence, the 1980s saw the start of the salvage of aircraft that had mostly been left behind in remote locations during the war. The worldwide museum fleet of Junkers aircraft from the Second World War now includes 18 museum aircraft, which are supplemented by eight replicas, some of which are still airworthy.

In addition to three other aircraft that are still at their crash sites in Scandinavia, 12 relatively well-preserved underwater wrecks are now known. In total, 41 objects exist today that represent the era of "late" Junkers developments.
They are presented in the third volume of the "Last Junkers Aircraft" series.
