Trains - Berlin: Books - Rail Routes and Stations (2/2)
Illustrated books on the trains, rail routes and stations in the German city of Berlin (2/2).
Die S-Bahn in Berlin - Eine fotografische Reise durch die achtziger und neunziger Jahre
With the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Berlin S-Bahn network suddenly regained its original importance. This book takes the reader on a photo-documentary journey through the 1980s and 1990s to relive the divided and reunited network in the eastern and western parts of the city.
The impressive images primarily capture details such as the irreplaceable charm of the trams rattling over rail joints, the incandescent lighting, enamelled station signs, wrought iron railings, cast iron platform supports, playful decorations, small paving stones and much more. The readers embark on a journey into a past that is not too far away in time, but awakens memories of bygone eras.

Auf Schienen zum BER - Mit dem Flughafen-Express zum Terminal
Berlin-Brandenburg Airport "Willy Brandt" was opened without much pomp on October 31, 2020. The delay in its construction has now become synonymous with poor government planning. Nevertheless, the new airport received its own rail connection including complex station and tunnel construction, which, unlike the airport, was completed on time for the planned opening date in 2012. But this success also caused problems.
An interesting story, told by Bernd Kuhlmann, who also reports in detail on the historical development of rail transport in Schönefeld.

Die Spreewaldbahn - Die Geschichte der legendären Schmalspurbahn
Barges, traditional costumes and cucumbers - that's what most people associate with the Spreewald. Railway enthusiasts, on the other hand, associate the region in southern Brandenburg with the approximately 85-kilometer-long narrow-gauge network between Lübben, Goyatz, Lieberose and Cottbus.
Although no trains have run here since 1970, the Spreewald Railway is one of the most famous narrow-gauge railways in Germany. No wonder, because the small machines and the short trains of the "Spreewald-Guste" embodied the romanticism of the little train like no other route.
The new edition of this classic by Erich Preuss has been enriched with additional historical images.
