The internationally successful construction machinery manufacturer Liebherr has been manufacturing hydraulic excavators since 1954 and is therefore one of the pioneers of this highly interesting construction machinery technology. Volume 1 shows for the first time chronologically the continuous development of all standard and large hydraulic excavators produced to date by the traditional manufacturer: detailed and fully described, with all technical data and mostly previously unpublished illustrations. From the first prototype, through the mining excavators, to the new products at Bauma 2019.
For four years, the two construction machinery historians researched countless sources intensively and searched many archives for rare images, documents and information. Conversations with current and former employees of the excavator works in Germany and France helped to shed light on the technical connections. Contemporary witnesses also reported on encounters with the visionary and company founder Hans Liebherr.
