Met de NACO-bus onderweg
NACO, a versatile company, is surely a familiar name to anyone who has ever traveled on one of their buses - to school, work, the swimming pool, or on an adventure with the sports club. This North Holland-based company had a diverse fleet in both scheduled service and touring and group transport. Perhaps you even worked at NACO, as a driver, in the workshop, or in the office. This book, steeped in memories, will certainly appeal to you.
Wim Vink, a native of Amsterdam, became familiar with the NACO during holidays on Terschelling in his youth. The drives across the Afsluitdijk to Harlingen, with those imposing green Crossleys, are etched in his memory.
In the 1960s, he went on a day trip through North Holland with his slightly older cousin, and together they encountered a wide variety of buses.
Unfortunately, they did not take photos at that time, but they made up for that starting in 1967. This stopped abruptly in 1972 when the NACO merged into the NZH. Nevertheless, the compiler later made up for lost time by collecting photos from various sources.
This book contains limited photographs from before the Second World War, with an emphasis on the period up to and including 1972. It also includes images of former NACO buses with later owners and tells the (sad) story of the only NACO museum bus.
