Using mostly unpublished photographs, the reader visits outstanding structures along the route such as the Danube bridge near Kleinprüfening, the arched bridge near Ochenbruck and the Felstor tunnel near Etterzhausen and gets to know the vehicles and stations.

Eisenbahnen im Nürnberger Land - Die Strecken rechts der Pegnitz zwischen 1877 und 2018

From 1877, passenger and freight trains puffed through the idyllic valley of the Pegnitz from Nuremberg to Hersbruck and Neuhaus, via Schnabelwaid to Bayreuth, Marktredwitz, Hof and Neunkirchen, with connections to Simmelsdorf-Hüttenbach. They transported goods, commuters, farmers and day-trippers.
Herbert Hieke documents the history of the railway lines to the right of the Pegnitz from the beginning to the present day with around 160 mostly unpublished images.

At the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1960s, steam locomotives were almost omnipresent on Bavaria's railways. Apart from the electrified routes, especially in Upper Bavaria, the black locomotives still dominated the scene, and diesel traction was still in its infancy.

Today it is hard to imagine the variety of the vehicle fleet around 1960: original Bavarian machines such as the S 3/6, the G ¾ or Gtl 4/4, even rack-and-pinion locomotives, as well as a large number of Prussian types such as the P 8, P 10, T 16 or T 18, not to mention large and small standard locomotives of the Reichsbahn - from the 01 to the 86.
Rolf Brüning has created a lasting monument to them in this illustrated book. His color photographs from the years 1957 to 1966 bring a long-forgotten era of the railway system back to life.

This book describes the development of the railway network in the area of today's Free State of Bavaria. Starting with the first projects, with the Ludwigsbahn and other former private railways, the transition to the state railway system is explained, followed by the history of the Eastern Railways, the local, secondary and local railways. Tabular overviews summarize the route data.
The book does not end with the dissolution of the Bavarian State Railway in 1920, but also reports on the most important events of the Reichsbahn era and the Bundesbahn up to the present day.
