De stoomtram Alkmaar-Bergen aan Zee, 'Bello'en daarna
People, animals and things often have a nickname. Bello is the nickname of the legendary steam locomotive that drove back and forth between Alkmaar and Bergen aan Zee for decades. They announced its arrival by ringing their bells loudly.
Bello was taken out of service in 1955 and then stood in Bergen as a monument from 1960 to 1976. After a thorough restoration, the locomotive was put back into service at the Museumstoomtram Hoorn-Medemblik.
On August 31, 2015, it was 60 years ago that the Alkmaar-Bergen aan Zee railway line was closed. Reason enough to record the reviving Bello and its history in a photo book.
In addition to the locomotive that has been number 7742 for over a hundred years, several steam tram carriages have also survived the closure. This book uses historical photos to show what these now completely dilapidated wrecks will look like after restoration. Then a complete "Bello" steam tram can be admired in motion again.
