Yamaha Zweitakt: Von der YA1 bis zur RD 500 und DT 400 - Strassenmaschinen, Enduros, Mokicks seit 1955
In the 1950s, the motorcycle market was dominated by German, Italian, and British manufacturers. NSU was the world's largest producer, DKW achieved record sales, and BMW offered reliable four-stroke models.
Then the Japanese arrived. In 1955, Yamaha introduced its first motorcycle, the YA1, a 125cc single-cylinder two-stroke. Initially inspired by German designs, this changed in 1959 with the launch of the YDS1, a truly sporty model with two cylinders, 250 cc, and 20 horsepower.
When Yamaha introduced models like the legendary RD series (250, 350, and 400 cc) in Germany from 1964, enthusiasm surged. The powerful two-stroke engines provided an entirely new riding experience, making motorcycles all about fun.
This large-format book tells the story of Yamaha two-stroke models since 1955. It describes in detail historic mopeds, mokicks, light motorcycles, 125cc and larger machines, including the RD 500 with four cylinders, 88 hp and a top speed of 225 km/h, as well as successful enduro models.
Contemporary witnesses report on a time when the motorcycle business flourished. The book also shows all the important model variants from Asia, the USA, Europe and Australia using over 800 mostly colored photos and brochures.
A separate chapter is dedicated to prototypes and special models.
Models: YA1, YDS1, DS6, R3, RD 250, RD 400, YMC2, DT 250, RD 500.
